Hutton Cranswick Village Flag
The flag consists of four images associated with Hutton Cranswick set on a background of blue and yellow.
The East Riding Rose signifies that the village is in a parish situated in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The rose is inverted version of the Yorkshire Rose.
The tree on an island on a pond is the main feature of the Green in Cranswick.
The owl is the symbol and logo of the Primary School. It is presented in a reverse form. The school is the community hub for learning in the village.
The mill is a key feature of Hutton. It is a distinct feature of this part of our community.
The Village Flag was created as a result of a competition. The competition was open to children in the Parish with two categories: ages 5 to 10 and 11 to 18. The Parish Council chose four designs to go to a public vote at the Village Show on the 28th July, 2019. The design was selected at the Village Show in July, following the shortlisting which was completed at the June Council meeting.
The new Village Flag was adopted by the Parish Council at its meeting in November 2019.
Flying Colours, Flagmakers based in Knaresborough have produced the finished flag.
Thanks go to H & K Embroidery and printing for the shortlisted flags and Mrs Di Calver for helping to organise the vote at the Village Show. The final design has been worked on by Richard Alderton and produced by the Flying Colours flag company.
The council do welcome suggestions for flying dates for the new village flag.

We propose to fly the Village Flag on Bank Holiday weekends and during school holidays. We are currently waiting on other suggested dates.
Except for August 1stwhen the Yorkshire Flag will be flown.
National Flag flying Saint days for England, Wales and Scotland will be recognised by flying an appropriate flag.
The “lest we forget” flag will be flown for 14 days prior to Armistice Day as part of the Poppy Appeal.
The Christmas and New Year flags will be flown at an appropriate time.
No flags will be flown if the wind speed is forecast to be above 25mph in any 24 hour period.
